Every piece is a single line. It starts at one nail, visits the others in a carefully planned order, and ends where it began. No knots, despite the name.

From photo to thread

    Simulate

    We turn your photo into a thread plan: where every nail goes and the exact order the thread visits them. You see the result before anything is made.

  2. 02

    Nail

    About two thousand nails go into a solid board: dense where your picture has detail, sparse where it is calm.

  3. 03

    Thread

    One thread is wound nail to nail, fifteen to twenty thousand times. Then it is framed and ready to hang.

Good to know

What makes a good photo?

One clear subject, strong light and shadow, and a simple background. Close-up faces and pets work beautifully. Not sure? Send a few and we will pick the strongest.

Will I see it before it is made?

Yes. Every commission starts with a simulation like the ones on this page, and nothing is nailed until you have approved it.

How long does it take?

Usually two to three weeks from approval to dispatch, depending on size.

Can I choose the thread colour?

White on black and black on white are standard. Ask us about coloured thread; some pictures suit it.
